Module 1. SELES LS Editor
Before doing these tutorials, you'll need to download the latest version of SELES from Andrew's website. Visit the SELES Executables page for more info.
Double click on 'LSEditor.exe' to start the Editor.
Once the Editor is up and running, you'll notice you have pull-down menus under the headings File, Edit, View, Window, Help and Parse. Most of these options will be recognisable to anyone familiar with the Windows operating systems desktop. In this module, we make a few notes of some options unique to the Editor.
1. The File Menu
The File Menu is all pretty standard. "Save Parse" is different: it checks the syntax of your file and, if it parses cleanly, saves it.
2. The Edit Menu
The Edit Menu has some fun stuff. At the bottom of the menu, you will find links to additional menus.
Using these menus, you can rapidly build SELES models from lists of Properties, Expressions and Variables. This material is not very useful for people doing the SELES 100 Tutorial, but will be useful when you become more comfortable coding SELES models and landscape events.
The Editing sub-menus look like the following:
3. The Window Menu
Lets you quickly rearrange the files open on your
desktop. Or you can select from window to have open. Tiling is often a useful
arrangement.
4. The Parse Menu
Using Parse Menu, you can get the Landscape Editor to check the syntax
of your models or landscape events. The parser will respond with a message if
the file is OK or not. If not, the parser gives an approximate location of the
error. You can also "check and save". Note that you cannot parse a landscape
scenario (.scn) file. This is because the scenario file is at the scripting
level of SELES, and this is not 'compiled' by the SELES Simulator engine.
5. The toolbar has some buttons for frequently used actions. They are:
